Borders secures win in GOP primary for 45th Indiana House seat

May 8—Incumbent state Rep. Bruce Borders, R-Jasonville, hung on to clinch his party's nomination in a three-way Republican primary election Tuesday.

Final unofficial tallies posted by the Indiana Secretary of State's Office for the Indiana 45th Representative district put Borders at 3,553 votes (38.04%) to Kellie Streeter's 3,230 votes (34.54%) and Jeff Ellington's 2,557 votes (27.38%).

There was no candidate for the 45th in the Democratic primary, but Democrats still could choose a candidate by caucus before the general election in November.

District 45 covers all of Greene and Sullivan counties and portions of Knox, Daviess and Vigo counties.

Borders has been the District 45 state representative since 2014, as well as from 2004 to 2012.

Streeter is Knox County county commissioner and president of that board.

Ellington is a businessman and served as a state representative from the former District 62 from 2016 to 2022. He lost to Borders in the District 45 GOP primary in May 2022.
