A TEENAGER from Bournemouth has achieved his dream by successfully completing his basic training in the Royal Navy.

Able Seaman (AB) Alfie Mundy joined the Senior Service in February and has completed his 10-weeks initial naval training at HMS Raleigh in Tor point, Cornwall, being turned from civilian to sailor in preparation for service at sea.

The 17-year-old, who had studied at Poole High School, said: “I saw a military career as suiting me, as it will give me a structured lifestyle and the opportunity to gain great qualifications, all the while travelling the world and enjoying amazing experiences.”

When reflecting on his training experience, Alfie said: “Living so closely with other lads who come from all walks of life, but who are all going through the same experience, is life-changing.”

He added: “The comradeship is instinctive, as you all muck in together and you quickly learn that everyone has a skill to bring.”

Alfie now goes on to undertake his professional training in HMS Collingwood in Fareham, Hampshire, where he will learn his trade as a Warfare Specialist before joining his first ship and sailing off to start his global adventure.
