A BOURNEMOUTH University student is taking part in a charity boxing match to raise money in aid of a family member who suffers from serious heart issues.

Jacob Egerton has started a JustGiving page to raise money for the British Heart Foundation by competing in this year's UCWB Boxing match held at the BIC.

Speaking on the reason behind raising money for the heart charity, Jacob said: “My sister's son was born with a heart defect that has required him to have a number of operations and procedures since birth to help him through life.

“He’s doing well now, and his first birthday is coming up soon.

“He’s been so brave and we couldn’t be more proud of him.

“I’ve done a few weeks of kickboxing lessons when I was younger and I remember really enjoying it, but I didn’t have the time to continue doing it.

“It was never really something I thought I’d get back into but decided I wanted to try something new and push myself in a way I haven’t before, so I thought this event would be a good way to do so.

“I’m really looking forward to it.

“Family are really proud of me, they do think I’m a bit nuts doing something like this but again it’s all for a good cause.

“I hope no matter the result I make everyone proud and show others that you can do anything if you put your mind to it.”

Jacob hopes to raise £500 for the charity and has currently raised £320 for the British Heart Foundation.

The competition also raises money for an array of different charities, he added:

“The whole event is dedicated toward supporting either BHF, Cancer Research, Mind or Make-a-wish, so all amazing causes and charities doing great work”.

“Anything I can raise above my goal would be amazing. I’m really thankful to everyone who has already donated and anyone who will before the event.

The Ultra White Collar Boxing match takes place on July 13.

Donations to Jacobs’ cause can be made via a JustGiving titled: ‘Jacob’s fundraiser for British Heart Foundation’.
