Boxpark, the shipping container bar group, is to celebrate its 10th birthday with a three-day festival next weekend, ahead of a planned UK expansion next year.

Running from December 3 until the 5 across all three Boxparks, the celebrations begin on Friday at Boxpark Croydon with a night of Hip Hop vs RnB karaoke, hosted by BBC Radio 1Xtra breakfast presenter Nadia Jae, with help from photographer AZ Captures.

The following evening, at the Wembley site, things are set to quite literally kick off early with a Fight Klub session; considered the first drum and bass workout, the longstanding fitness classes are a mix of boxing, kickboxing and dance.

That evening will play host to the Garage Supper Club which, as the name suggests, combines both old school garage, courtesy of live DJs, and a three course meal with a glass of fizz. Afterwards, there will be a live show from Kele Le Roc, the MOBO award-winning garage star who had a hit with My Love, and Sweet Female Attitude, known for their enduring hit, Flowers.

The festivities will draw to a close at the original Shoreditch Boxpark, on Sunday night, with a special edition of RCRD Shop, an event usually dedicated to showcasing upcoming music stars. The birthday celebrations will see the more established, Mercury-nominated Novelist perform, as well as Donae’O, who has worked with the likes of Giggs, Young T & Bugsey, Sarkodie, Fredo, Ghetts, Lethal Bizzle, Dizzee Rascal, Jme, and Calvin Harris. Both Novelist and Donae’O, as well as the rest of the bill, will be backed by a live band. Afterwards will be an afterparty hosted by online radio station, No Signal.

David Byrne, the head of events for Boxpark, said of the celebrations: “10 years is a big moment for us so we wanted to make sure we went big on the parties too. Our three-day music festival across all three of our London venues marks this special occasion... It’s going to be a weekend to remember.”

The events mark a decade since the first Boxpark opened in Shoreditch in 2011, with the Croydon site arriving in 2016 and the Wembley spot following in 2018. All three house bars and pop-up food stalls, set within stacked shipping containers. Reflecting on the brand’s success, Byrne told the Standard: “Since launching our flagship site, we have developed a solid reputation for putting on diverse events, becoming one of London’s biggest food, culture and entertainment hubs.

“Over the past 10 years we’ve tried to really push the boundaries of what Londoners want from events, tapping into some of the biggest cultural trends with Love Island screenings and even a Squid Game themed-event, hosting legendary homegrown music artists like Stormzy for live gigs and getting name checked from sports stars like Jack Grealish for our Euro 2020 fanparks.”

There are plans for more Boxparks to open across the UK in 2022, as the brand branches out beyond London.
