Boy, 11, dies after being knocked off his bike near Nuneaton

An 11-year-old boy has died after being knocked off his bike by a car in a village near Nuneaton.

Police in Warwickshire said the boy child was hit in Ansley Common, in the north of the county, on Saturday afternoon.

Officers were called to the scene at 2.40pm alongside other emergency services including a doctor who was passing the scene.

The boy was then taken to hospital in nearby Coventry but later died.

Police confirmed a man was arrested and then released under investigation.

Officers have appealed for anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.

A spokesperson for Warwickshire Police said: "This is a tragic incident and we're appealing to anyone who may have witnessed what happened or was passing with dash cameras in this location to please contact us.

A candlelit vigil is reportedly being held by the boy’s family and friends.
