On Monday, Broadway's Moulin Rouge! The Musical announced that George, 62, will return to Broadway for a limited engagement as “Harold Zidler” from Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2024, through Sunday, May 12, 2024, at New York City's Al Hirschfeld Theatre.
Tituss Burgess is currently playing Zidler, the director of the musical's titular cabaret club, which he will take on until Sunday, Dec. 17. Eric Anderson, who previously performed in the role from January 2022 through Oct. 8 of this year, will then return in the same role to cover the ground between Burgess' performance and George's first performance from Tuesday, Dec. 19 through Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, according to a release.
George, who was born George Alan O'Dowd, returns to Broadway just over 20 years after he made his Broadway debut in Taboo, which he starred in and wrote music and lyrics for. The singer and actor received a 2004 Tony Award nomination for best original score for his work on Taboo, as well as two Drama Desk Awards nominations for the show.

Boy GeorgeGeorge joins the cast of Moulin Rouge! for a limited run with the production after performers like JoJo and Casey Cott made their Broadway debuts in the musical earlier this year.
The production, based on filmmaker Baz Luhrmann's 2001 movie of the same name, follows an American man named Christian in Paris at the turn of the 20th century who falls in love with a performer at the titular cabaret club named Satine. The original movie starred Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman in the lead roles; currently, Cott, 31, and Courtney Reed costar alongside Burgess on Broadway.

The musical has been playing at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre since 2019; it reopened in the same location in 2021 after a prolonged shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

George originally rose to fame as the lead singer of the British band Culture Club in the 1980s and eventually branched out as a solo artist. Back in 2021, the musician announced he was working on a biopic based on his own life titled Karma Chameleon; the movie still appears to be in development.
