Boy Survives Internal Decapitation After Stranger Rescues Him From Horror Crash

A four-year-old boy who was internally decapitated in a violent car crash looks set to make a miraculous full recovery.

Killian Gonzalez’s spine and skull base became dislodged after the horrific accident – but was saved thanks to the efforts of a heroic passerby.

The injury has an incredibly low rate of survival – and those who do live are usually paralysed.

But Killian will avoid surgery because of the quick-thinking of Leah Woodward, a stranger who arrived moments after the crash.

The woman, who along with her husband were first to arrive at the scene in Boise, Idaho, held the boy’s head perfectly still while waiting for paramedics.

Killian has now been sitting up, eating and even walking in hospital.

His mother, Brandy, who suffered multiple injuries in the crash, told ABC 7: “She saved my baby. She gave me him back.”

Posting on Facebook, Woodward wrote: “I want to share a crazy, incredible story with everyone. Last Sunday, we were on our way home from camping when we came up on a horrible car accident.

“My husband and I got out to assist the injured people until paramedics arrived. The crash was a head on collision. Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles. One vehicle had a small child inside.”

“My husband has gone through first responder training. He helped and instructed me to stabilise the little boy’s neck. We got him secure and placed his arm by his side. I covered him with a blanket so mom wouldn’t see him and become scared. I told her he was fine. :( He clearly wasn’t.

“Mom was very scared. From what we could tell, her arm was totally broken. She started to go into shock, but my husband was able to talk to her and keep her calm as best he could. Her name was Brandy. She gave me a bunch of details about Killian, who had just had his birthday the day before, which I was able to use in talking with him to keep him awake as best I could.”

She added: “Killian not only survived, which is a miracle in itself, but is also expected to make a FULL RECOVERY! God definitely had other plans for this family.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family pay for medical bills.
