Brave young Coventry man's health fight inspires rap song

A rap penned about a brave young Coventry man's fight is destined for UK Charts. Blackpool talent YoungBloodRap wrote Mr High (Louis Tribute) about Louis O'Brien-Smith, who has been waiting for a heart transplant to save his life at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham since the end of February.

His mum Chantelle Speirs said that her 21-year-old son inspired the rapper to put pen to paper and put his brave story into a rap. "To get in the official charts it needs to stay in the top 40, the other week it was number 1 in the rapper chart, " she said.

The emotional song, which can be downloaded from iTunes or from Amazon, has come at a time when the 21-year-old has faced a huge set-back. He was due to have a heart transplant but it was cancelled at the last minute.

But. despite 'going to hell and back', his mum said that Louis continues to show not only remarkable bravery but also tenacity as he faces another agonising hurdle. This is down to issues with donors becoming available through the NHS Organ Donor Register system.

"The new opt in system still means we have a huge shortage because families are able to overturn and do overturn the decision unless the patient previously expressed their preference to become an organ donor," she explained. "When Louis joined the urgent list he was one of 28 in the UK urgent queue.

"He is still trying to spread awareness about joining the organ donor list, from his hospital bed, of which I am so proud of. I want the world to know how amazing he is and all the good he is doing.

"He is living, breathing and fighting for his chance at life." Louis uses his TikTok page kinglouis_02, which has more than 50,000 followers, to share his story and campaigning for the organ donation registration.
