Bridge Section Collapses Amid Heavy Rains in Central Chile

A bridge in Chile’s central Maule Region collapsed amid river flooding spurred by heavy rains, video released on August 21 shows.

Aerial video of the Maule Region released by the Carabineros, Chile’s national police, on Monday shows the Three Arches Bridge (Puente Tres Arcos) partially collapsed into the Ancoa River in Llepo, as well as flooding in nearby areas.

According to local news reports three regions in Chile’s central zone were under a red alert for extreme weather, including flooding, and 19,000 people had been evacuated. Credit: @Carab_Maule via Storyful
