Bright Green Aurora Makes Ground Look 'Radioactive' in Alaska
Bright green aurora gave the snow-covered ground a radioactive glow in Fairbanks, Alaska, recent footage shows.
Video filmed by professional aurora chaser Vincent Ledvina shows the lights shining bright in the sky, turning the ground beneath them a vibrant green.
“Seeing how much the ground brightens up is one of the ways I judge how strong an aurora really is,” Ledvina told Storyful.
He said that the ground and landscape “went from almost pitch black to glowing green in a matter of minutes” during the event.
“Before the aurora really intensified, I couldn’t make out much in the snow, but while it was lit up overhead, I could literally read print, see my friends’ faces, and I didn’t even need a headlamp while walking around,” Ledvina said. Credit: Vincent Ledvina via Storyful
