Brighton make 'unbelievable' Yankuba Minteh claim after Newcastle's £33m transfer rush

Fabian Hurzeler has revealed that he is 'really looking forward' to working with Yankuba Minteh after Brighton signed the 'unbelievable' forward from Newcastle United.

Newcastle, in an ideal world, would not have wanted to lose Minteh, particularly after such an impressive loan spell at Feyenoord, but the Magpies had to scramble to raise funds ahead of the PSR deadline at the weekend. As a result, the £33m received for the Gambia international will go down as one of the most significant sales in the club's recent history. In fact, only Elliot Anderson and Andy Carroll have gone for bigger fees despite Minteh never playing for the club.

It represents a huge profit for Newcastle, who signed Minteh from Odense for around £5.8m last summer, but Brighton feel the new signing can get even better after securing him on a five-year deal. In fact, technical director David Weir has already highlighted how Minteh is an 'exciting attacking player with incredible speed' following a 'very impressive' campaign in the Eredivisie.

Minteh, meanwhile, has spoken about 'proving he can score more goals' at Brighton after bagging 10 in one season at Feyenoord. Getting the chance to play in the Premier League was a lifelong dream for Minteh and the new arrival has vowed to 'win a lot of games' for Hurzeler, who is clearly a big fan.

"We have young talented players like our new signing Minteh who I'm really looking forward to being a coach of because he has unbelievable skills," the Brighton boss told club media. "He showed unbelievable matches at Feyenoord."
