Britain Braces For Storms: Torrential Rain And Wind, -4C And A Chance Of Snow This Weekend

(Rex)

If you have plans for this weekend, you might need to grab a brolly and a brew.

The UK could see snow this weekend, as temperatures plunge to -4C and torrential rain rocks the nation.

Gusts of wind, up to 60mph, and heavy downpours heighten flood risks, as Britain braces itself on storm alert.

It might even snow on Saturday evening, in the north.

Lows of -4C were projected in the north with a slightly more acceptable but chilly 3C anticipated for the rest of the country.

The Weather Channel UK’s Leon Brown reported: “This weekend a cold front will move eastwards on Saturday, with quite a wet and windy start over the north and west - but becoming clearer and colder in the afternoon with showers for western Scotland.

“Next week now looks to be dominated by a large and slow-moving area of low pressure, passing to the southwest of the UK.“

He added that “quite high rainfall” is likely over the west.

But the good news is that those in the east might escape rain and it will feel milder in southeasterly winds – reaching 18C in the east on Tuesday.

It will be drier towards the end of next week but then another deep Atlantic area of low pressure will mean rain before and during next weekend too.

At least there’s something to look forward to…

Bookies have slashed odds of it snowing on December 25, as excitement grows in the hope of a white Christmas.
