A British woman detained in Dubai over Facebook posts calling her ex-husband’s wife a “horse” is to be released, the campaign group which represents her has said.

Laleh Shahravesh, 55, was detained when she visited the country with 14-year-old daughter Paris three years after writing the posts.

Following a court hearing in Dubai on Thursday, the Detained In Dubai group said the case had been settled by the payment of a fine and Ms Shahravesh had been told she will be home by early next week.

In a tweet, Chief Executive Radha Stirling said: “#FreeLaleh told she will be home by early week. Her case has been settled by payment of a AED3,000 fine to @DubaiCourts.

“An application has been made for the return of her passport & her lawyer has advised she will be home with her daughter early next week.”

Ms Shahravesh, from Richmond, south-west London, called Ms Hammadi, from Tunisia, a horse in a post after she discovered her ex-husband Pedro Correia Dos Santos had remarried in 2016.

She was arrested when she travelled to the United Arab Emirates on March 10 for Pedro’s funeral after his death from a heart attack one week earlier.

Paris was allowed to return to Britain after the pair were held by police for 12 hours, but Ms Shahravesh’s passport was seized, Detained In Dubai said previously.

She faced two years in prison and a £50,000 fine.

According to reports, the case was initially adjourned at a hearing on Thursday, but on the same day a judge ruled that Shahravesh will be allowed to leave the country after paying a fine.

After the hearing, as she shared the news, Ms Stirling said Shahravesh was “over the moon” at the decision.

She tweeted: #FreeLaleh is over the moon with relief that she will return to the UK after her detention in Dubai. “I can’t believe it, I can’t believe I’ll be seeing Paris in a few days and that this nightmare has come to an end”.
