Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Terry Crews is set to reprise his Everybody Hates Chris role for a new animated series.

The Chris Rock-created show, which was based on the comedian's life and ran in the noughties, is set to be rebooted in the new Comedy Central show called Everybody Still Hates Chris.

It has now been revealed that Crews will be back to lend his voice as Chris's "gentle giant" father Julius after playing him in the original show, while Tichina Arnold will return as "smart, strong-willed" mother Rochelle (via Variety).

Chris – originally played by Abbott Elementary's Tyler James Williams – will be voiced by Tim Johnson Jr, while Ozioma Akagha will play younger sister Tonya, Terrence Little Gardenhigh will voice younger brother Drew, and Gunnar Sizemore will play friend Greg.

Rock will be back to narrate the show as well as executive produce, the comedian saying of the project: "I’m very excited to introduce the world to another funny side of my childhood."

Showrunner Sanjay Shah added: "I wanted this job to get free tickets to a Chris Rock stand up show, but we ended up making something we’re proud of that is true to the original series we all loved."

Everybody Hates Chris was originally broadcast on UPN between 2005 and 2006, before moving to The CW, running for a total of four seasons until its conclusion in 2009.

Crews has perhaps been best known in the last decade for starring as Terry Jeffords in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which came to an end in 2021.

Back in 2022, the actor revealed an idea for a Brooklyn Nine-Nine reunion movie, the star telling The Hollywood Reporter: "I still think we could do a heist movie.

"We always had our yearly heist episode and I think that would be brilliant, especially with Peacock and all the great things that NBC can already do.

"I think that every cast member will be down for us to do a nice hour and a half episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, make it three episodes all involving the heist and a new heist and it would be all wonderful."

Everybody Still Hates Chris will premiere on Comedy Central later this year.
