Bucket Falls From Aircraft Through Shop Roof

A bucket of cleaning solution has fallen from a US military aircraft, smashing through the roof of a garage in California.

It happened near the Miramar Air Station in San Diego.

US Marine Corps spokesman Lieutenant Tyler Balzer said the five-gallon bucket had been strapped down inside an Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft, but it somehow came loose and slid out shortly after it took off.

He added that while mistakes do happen, this is "an opportunity for us to look at the already good safety measures we have in place for flying here in San Diego and improve on it".

The bucket plunged through the roof of a car shop, which was closed at the time. Fortunately, nobody was injured.

It clipped one vehicle and left several others covered in the cleaning solution.

Mr Balzer said the shop owners can file a claim with the US Marine Corps for restitution.
