Bury animal charities work together to host community fundraising day at Burrs

A family-friendly fundraising day will be held at Burrs Country Park this weekend to help raise money for several animal charities.

Hosted by Kitty Rescue Bury, the event will be offering guests the chance to take part in games and activities such as hook-a-duck, raffles and a tombola at the event on Saturday, July 6.

Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary, Pets in Need, Greater Manchester Lost Dog Search and Rescue Capture Team and many more charities will be hosting stalls on the day.

A spokesperson from Bury Kitty Rescue said: “We’ve invited lots of other local charities to join us at the event to help raise awareness and funds for everyone.

“It’s so important for us all to work together as we all rely on volunteers and donations from the public.”

The charities will be on hand to speak with people about the animal adoption process, how to get involved with volunteering and provide educational information about the work they do.

There will be cake stalls and a ticketed scavenger hunt for children and adults with cash prizes and hampers up for grabs on the day.

“Fundraising is a vitally important part of the work we do. Just this week, we have taken in five injured cats whose health needs will cost us approximately £10,000,” the spokesperson added.

“We also took in a badly injured cat who was found dragging her leg and is currently in the vets.

“She needs to see a neurologist and have MRI scan. We’ve been quoted about £6,000 just for that part of her care.”

Earlier this year, the charity shared concerns about its future viability due to financial struggles.

The foster-based rescue is run entirely by a team of volunteers and relies solely on public donations.

The fair is free to attend and will take place from 12pm to 4pm, with last admission to the scavenger hunt at 2.30pm. It is wheelchair and pram accessible with free parking and a café on site.
