Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, the third part of the franchise's rebooted trilogy, has been announced to release this year on November 10. Yup, unlike with Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare II, there is no gap here.

One of the big changes this time around is the expansion to fan-favourite Zombies mode. For the first time, squads will be able to team up with each other and fight across a large open-world map.

There will be a host of missions set across different territories, escalating in difficulty, and there's the promise of loads of secrets to discover. The story for this mode will be set in the Modern Warfare reboot universe and focus on the "unearthly" Dark Aether zombies.

Meanwhile, the game's main story will pick up immediately after end of last year's Modern Warfare II.

John Price and Task Force 141 are still fighting against Vladimir Makarov, but the new Open Combat Missions mechanic is going to give players more freedom in how they want to progress through the various stages based on their preferred playstyles.

Fans of the original Modern Warfare 2 will be glad to know that 16 maps from the 2009 entry will be built from scratch and playable in Modern Warfare III, while War Mode will be returning for the first time since 2017's Call of Duty: WWII. All this nostalgia is in celebration of the franchise's 20th (yes, really) anniversary.

The game is also adding a new competitive 3 v 3 mode called Cutthroat, and a new Tactical Stance feature, which is described as a middle-ground between hip fire and aiming down sights that's designed for close-quarters combat.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is set to release on November 10 on PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
