We finally have a release date for the latest CoD shooter, and it is this year!

Modern Warfare will hit Xbox One, PS4 and PC on October 25, 2019, and pre-orders are available right now – we've got more info here.

There are a huge amount of deals and bundles to get double XP, and even a special Captain Price figurine.

We expect to see a bit more gameplay at E3 in early June, but it's extremely exciting just to know that a new CoD is coming, if we're honest.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare trailers – how does it look?

As you can see from the trailer above, Modern Warfare is going to be exactly how you imagined it would be, but with better graphics.

CoD has become famous for its sprawling narrative in single-player mode, seeing you fly between far-flung locations like the Middle East, tropical jungles and even outer space to keep the peace.

Modern Warfare will have you playing as an elite task force attempting to stem the flow of global catastrophe.

The trailer shows fan-favourite Captain Price return complete with his usual gruff, British machismo, as well as chopper combat, ground warfare and guns... lots and lots of guns.

There are plenty of trailers hitting YouTube right now exploring all the new features and the gorgeous graphics, so check them out now.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare gameplay – How will it play?

It is hard to say at this point if it will be a straight-up remake of the original Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, but we hope that some elements of the classic game will remain.

What we do know is that CoD is changing the online multiplayer genre for the better.

Season Passes are no more – Infinity Ward is getting rid of costs for extra DLC – why can't more publishers be more like this?

Creative director of Infinity Ward, Patrick Kelly, said: "With the launch of Modern Warfare, we're taking steps to unite the community. First, we plan for Modern Warfare to be played together across PC and console through cross-play support.

"Second, we're eliminating the traditional season pass, so that we can deliver more free maps and content as well as post-launch events to all players. This is just the beginning – there's much more to come."

This is massive news for gamers who are getting tired of having to pay through the nose for content that should really be in the game already.

And it opens up more community integration if we can all play against other console players in the same game. It also allows everyone to play all the new maps together, rather than having to kick out your mate because he hasn't forked out £10 to get the latest DLC.

Activision is also stepping up its graphical fidelity, adding better performance and improved lighting in game.

Modern Warfare will be on a new engine – we don't know which one yet – and will be able to cope with updated 4K resolution, decal rendering, HDR, ray-tracing (only on PC) and more efficient GPU communication to make all those guns, bullets and explosions look incredible.

The online aspect of the game is what we are all waiting for, and jumping online to battle it out against other players has never looked as much fun as it does with the new Modern Warfare.

With a bunch of new game modes, including 2vs2 single-life death matches, and larger squad-based objective games mixing up how you play each time.

There is also a new ranking system too. With customisation of your character, your weapons and your killstreaks allowing for you to take your own unique play-style out into the war to take on the world.

Players of all CoD games will likely be happy, as they have removed the 'wee-smoking, guitar riffing' nonsense of BlackOut and other CoD games, but still keeping that massive library of upgrades and customisation, and putting it back into a tight, focussed online shooter that old school players will love.
