Callum Smith puts his WBA super middleweight championship on the line against John Ryder in his first title defence back home in Liverpool.

The 29-year-old has made one successful defence his belt since taking it from George Groves in September 2018, easing past Hassan N’Dam at Madison Square Garden on the Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz earlier this year.

Greater tests lie ahead – notably a possible unification bout with WBC champion Billy Joe Saunders or one with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, should the Mexican return to fight at 168lbs after moving up to take Sergey Kovalev’s light heavyweight crown.

Ryder is out to wreck those plans and ensure the possibility of Smith having his dream fight at Anfield is put on hold.

Date, UK start time and venue

Smith vs Ryder takes place at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool on Saturday 23 November.

Ringwalks for the main event are expected around 10:30pm GMT with undercard coverage beginning at 7pm.
