Camberwell is getting creative over the next week with the return of Camberwell Arts Festival.
SE5’s annual celebration of the its arts scene runs from June 10-18, with this Saturday kicking proceedings off with a giant Art Party on Camberwell Green.
The festival is now the UK’s longest running local arts festival, established in 1994 to celebrate the creativity and talents of local artists and residents.
This year’s programme has the theme of ‘Try Your Luck’, encouraging visitors to seek out something different. Events will take place in pubs, parks, cafes and crypts, and will include workshops, walks, open studios, screenings, exhibitions and talks.
Highlights include local artists exhibiting their work on ‘For Sale’ signs around Camberwell, an evening walk featuring music from composer Isa Suarez, and an SE5 art trail exploring Camberwell’s street markers.
Saturday’s launch event on Camberwell Green, includes an art-inspired cake competition, a literary breakfast, and evening swing dancing. There will also be plenty of workshops where visitors will be able to make kites, lanterns, puppets and bracelets.
