A Cambridgeshire village pub that has been threatened by demolition has been listed as up for sale. The Three Horseshoes, in Turves, is the only one of its kind in the area.

The pub dates back to 1860 and is described by many locals as 'a pillar of the community'. However, plans have been put in place to demolish the building and replace it with five three-bedroom detached houses.

The venue has since been confirmed to be up for sale by Fenland District Council. It is also listed as an 'asset of community value', meaning that community groups can bid on the property.

The Three Horseshoes is a traditional country pub, consisting of a pool table room and a 40 seater restaurant with an extensive menu full of classic British dishes. Outside, there is a large beer garden with a petanque court and children's play area.

Several residents have objected to plans to demolish the building and say they are worried that doing so will leave the village without a pub. One person said: "It is a much loved landmark with so much history. It would be an absolute shame to lose this one-of-a-kind building." while another added that it would be an "abomination" and "ruin the history of the village".

No decision has been made on the application, although it is expected to be confirmed later this year. The pub itself is listed with an asking price of £350,000.

The full listing is available to view on the Fenland District Council website. For more information, click here.
