A Canadian man has been caught driving with a smartphone and tablet tied to his steering wheel.

A traffic officer first spotted the driver was wearing headphones before noticing they were attached to a makeshift entertainment system.

Vancouver Police’s traffic department shared a picture of the set-up on Twitter.

They said: “Can't make it up. Guy had iPad and cell phone attached by strings on steering wheel while driving!”

Constable Jason Doucette added: "Just when I think I've seen everything, a photo like this is captured by one of our officers."

The driver was given a lengthy chat about the dangers of using distracting devices behind the wheel and a ticket for not being able to produce his licence.
