Candice Brown and Paul Hollywood react to affair rumours following 'intimate kiss' photo

The Great British Bake Off‘s 2016 winner, Candice Brown, has responded to photos that show her sharing a friendly kiss with Bake Off judge Paul Hollywood, laughing off claims that they had been behaving “intimately”.

Keen to set the record straight, Candice called on her celebrity friends, including Stacey Solomon, to act as her witness as she insisted that there isn’t anything untoward going on between herself and Paul, who has been married to his wife Alexandra since 1998.

In pictures that were obtained by The Sun, Candice and Paul can be seen in an embrace, with an onlooker claiming to the publication that the pair had been so friendly they’d assumed that Candice was Paul’s wife.

Responding to the report, Candice wrote: “So invisibility cloaks are real. I was so sure you were there all night too!! @StaceySolomon @ShelaghFogarty @Poppy_Talent.”

“No kisses or hugs hello or goodbye from now on- handshakes or waves only!”

Stacey responded immediately, jumping to her friend’s defence as she tweeted: “Well I was there the entire time no intimate kisses from where I was standing just a goodbye peck! I got one too….”

Journalist Shelagh Fogarty retweeted the original article and added: “Masterclass in fakery. I and three others were at that table and no such ‘intimate’ thing happened.”

Paul responded to Candice’s tweet with the ‘crying with laughter’ emoji, adding: “Incredible.”

He then retweeted Shelagh’s message and thanked Stacey for setting the record straight.

The onlooker had previously told The Sun: “They were all over each other; hugging and stroking each other.

“The Pride Of Britain awards isn’t the place for that kind of behaviour and we were all shocked by it. Other celebrities noticed and all eyes were on them.”

Candice recently announced her engagement to partner Liam McAulay, saying that her partner’s proposal had “topped off” and “amazing” year after she winning Bake Off in 2016.

Paul’s 19-year marriage to Alexandra previously hit the headlines in 2013 when he had an affair with Marcela Valladolid, his co-star on the US version of The Great British Bake Off.

He since called his relationship with Marcela the “biggest mistake of my life”, with Alexandra eventually forgiving him.
