A casualty was airlifted to hospital yesterday, after a car crashed off a Denbighshire pass, sparking a major emergency. Police, ambulance paramedics, the fire service, the Wales Air Ambulance and mountain rescuers were called to the Horseshoe Pass shortly before 4pm. The road was shut overnight while emergency services worked at the scene.

A North Wales Police spokesperson said: "We were called at 3.55pm yesterday (Monday) by colleagues from WAST reporting a single vehicle RTC on the Horseshoe Pass, where a car had left the road and travelled down a steep bank.

"A multi agency response commenced involving police, WAST (ambulance) NWFRS (fire service), helimed and mountain rescue team personnel. The road was closed whilst the incident was dealt with, and remained closed this morning whilst recovery of the vehicle was undertaken."

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called yesterday (20 May), at approximately 3:44pm, to reports of a single vehicle road traffic collision on the Horseshoe pass, Llangollen.

“We sent one air ambulance, one operations manager, two emergency ambulances and one Cymru High Acuity Response Unit to the scene. One patient was conveyed by air to hospital for further treatment."
