Cars Burn as Rioters Clash With Police in Paris

Tensions in the Argenteuil suburb of Paris, France, boiled over as rioters and police clashed after some residents blamed police for the death of an 18-year-old motorcyclist on May 17 after a crash.

In footage originally posted to YouTube on May 18, several cars are ablaze as police and rioters are seen firing projectiles and fireworks. According to news reports, three police officers were injured by the fireworks.

Protesters, seen blurred in the video, expressed their frustration toward the government’s response to the death of the motorcyclist. An investigation has so far not found evidence his bike came into contact with a police car on patrol in the area at the time of the fatal crash.
