Case of Lima murder suspect bound over to grand jury

Jan. 18—LIMA — A Lima man charged with murder in the Jan. 8 stabbing on Mound Road that left 76-year-old Lucinda Wright dead appeared in Lima Municipal Court on Thursday and waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

Daniel Wood, 24, of Lima, appeared before Judge Richard Warren for a probable cause hearing and, after waiving that hearing, his case was bound over to the Allen County Common Pleas Court for consideration by an upcoming session of the grand jury. Wood is currently being held in the Allen County jail under a $2 million bond, and Warren ordered that bond be continued.

Wood is charged with one count of murder, an unclassified felony. The complaint against him alleges that he caused the death of Wright while committing the underlying felony offense of aggravated robbery. If convicted, he faces a maximum prison term of 15 years to life.

Lima police officers were dispatched shortly after 7 p.m. on Jan. 8 to 1840 Mound Road in reference to a possible deceased person. Upon arrival, officers found the victim, later identified as Wright, deceased as a result of multiple stab wounds to her torso. The body was transported to the Lucas County Coroner's Office for an autopsy.

An extensive search by police led to Wood after he was located using Wright's vehicle in the area of Market and Metcalf streets in downtown Lima. Wood was taken into custody without incident.

He is being represented by the Allen County Public Defenders Office.
