Yahoo News Casey Affleck "proud" to win the Best Actor Oscar
The Affleck family are adding one more Academy Award to their mantle thanks to Casey Affleck's Best Actor win.
Casey won the coveted golden gong at the 89th Academy Awards on Sunday (February 26) for his portrayal of a troubled and reluctant uncle in the stark drama Manchester by the Sea.
Casey got a kiss from big brother Ben on his way up to the stage, and he could be seen choking up as he collected the trophy: "Thank you, this means so much to me!"
"One of the first people who taught me how to act was [fellow nominee] Denzel Washington and I just met him tonight – thank you!

"To all the other nominees, thanks for your great work. I'm proud to be in your company because you're brave and I admire what you do!
"I'm only here because of the talent and goodwill of so many people."
Momentum was definitely on Casey's side heading into Sunday's ceremony, having already collected the BAFTA and the Golden Globe on the way to Oscar glory.
The Oscars' Best Actor race pitted him against Andrew Garfield (Hacksaw Ridge), Ryan Gosling (La La Land), Viggo Mortensen (Captain Fantastic) and Denzel Washington (Fences).
Casey's older brother Ben Affleck has two Academy Awards to his credit for writing Good Will Hunting and a Best Picture win for his Iran hostage drama Argo – making the Afflecks a rare Hollywood family with two Oscar winners.
Casey Affleck's Manchester by the Sea writer-director Kenneth Lonergan was also victorious in the Best Original Screenplay category, but lost out to La La Land's Damien Chazelle for Best Director.
