Castle Douglas Rotarians hear from teenagers aiming to become Scottish sporting champs

Castle Douglas Rotary president Cliff Robertson had the privilege to introduce two local teenagers who are aspiring to become Scottish champions at the latest meeting.

Sam Brown and Dylan McRobert are students at Castle Douglas High and both gave a short talk on their efforts to become champions in judo and fly fishing respectively.

Reliant on family support, fundraising and an understanding school these two are following in the footsteps of other medal winning champions the club has supported in the past.

The club wished Dylan “tight lines” and Sam to remember “fall down seven times – get up eight”.

A bonus for the club was the induction of three new members into the Rotary fold – Tracy Walker, Hollie Nelson and her home help Luna. Tracy and Hollie have been very active in the town’s satellite club, the Forward Group, and have lots more exciting projects on the cards.

The satellite club does Rotary things differently and takes on different and novel community projects.

Luna is the now the club mascot and does sterling work keeping everyone in check and helping out around the house.

The club is running a series of car boot sales on Market Hill over the summer on the fourth Sunday of each month, starting on May 26.

Posters are going up around town and details are also on Facebook.

Small, local good causes are invited to partner with the club at these events, with Kelton Nursery the first.

The club meets at 6.30pm on the second and fourth Thursday of the month at the Kings Arms and would welcome approaches from interested individuals who like the look of the club as well as organisations who are looking for support in any manner.

The club has enthusiasm, expertise, experience, energy and a wee bit of funding.
