Casualty will be bringing back not one but three familiar faces as part of its upcoming 35th anniversary celebrations. What a treat.

The BBC drama has confirmed that it'll be welcoming back Tony Marshall, Charles Dale, and Richard Winsor – AKA Noel, Big Mac, and Cal – for a special episode set to air later this summer.

Casualty will mark its 35th year by going back in time for a one-off episode, where the team in the Emergency Department is faced with a chain of events that changes the course of their future.

While Charles Dale's return as Big Mac is possible, with the character leaving the ED back in 2016 after stealing medicine, Cal and Noel will be brought back from the dead for the occasion.

Casualty fans last saw Cal Knight in 2017, after he was killed by Scott Ellison, while receptionist Noel Garcia tragically died earlier this year in the series' coronavirus episode.

Opening up about his return as Noel, Tony Marshall admitted that it was "strange but rewarding" to be back on set, revealing that the special episode will tackle "yet another important subject".

"It was a joy working with my son as well as, of course, Charlie Dale and Richard Winsor," he added. "We had to abide [by] COVID restrictions, which is not easy but we did it. The audience are going to love the episode!”

Charles Dale was equally thrilled about reprising Big Mac. "It's lovely to be back with my friends again, especially THE Tony Marshall," he said. "Reunion tour?"

Casualty's producer Loretta Preece promised a "35th anniversary smorgasbord" for fans as part of the announcement, which also confirmed the arrival of new character Stevie, played by Elinor Lawless.

"[There are] huge stunts, faces from the past, some indelible new characters and some wonderful story twists," she said. We can't wait.

Casualty continues Saturday, July 17 on BBC One.
