Casualty spoilers follow.

Casualty is set to revisit the storyline between Chrissie Danes and Iain Dean – who are played by real-life couple Lauren Crace (Danielle Jones in EastEnders) and Michael Stevenson.

While Chrissie first appeared at Christmas, fans are set to learn in new scenes that her romantic relationship with Iain quickly deteriorated as she returns as a member of the ambulance crew.

When he is put on shift with his ex in Saturday's (January 2) episode, Iain is not terribly pleased, especially after Chrissie abandoned him while he recovered from his injuries from a van incident.

However, he puts work first when they are called out to help a couple called Tommy and Danni, who have been injured in an explosion.

Tommy explains that they met in Afghanistan, though Iain quickly realises that Danni is suffering from PTSD, and she refuses treatment. She also learns that the explosion was caused by Tommy creating ammunition to buy drugs to treat her PTSD.

Danni then walks away while not realising how bad her injuries are, leading Chrissie and Iain to conclude that her pain may be masked by heroin. They then manage to find her and help her open up about her PTSD, and then help her to resus.

Going forward, Tommy promises to help Danni face her mental health issues properly, which leads Chrissie to confess to Iain that she herself suffered from PTSD after his accident with the van over Christmas.

He then forgives her after realising that she left as she couldn't face the thought of losing him due to her love for him, and they embrace in a kiss.

Casualty airs these scenes on Saturday, January 29 on BBC One.
