Former Casualty star Chelsea Halfpenny has landed a new role on stage following her exit as Alicia Munroe earlier this year.

The actress has joined the cast of 9 to 5: The Musical alongside the likes of Brian Conley and Bonnie Langford, taking over the role of Judy Bernly from Love Island's Amber Davies in London from late August.

"Erm HI. I CAN'T BREATHE," she tweeted in excitement. "But genuinely cannot believe my luck. Feeling SO bloody grateful and excited for this opportunity."

She added with a picture of her childhood self next to one of Dolly Parton: "My Mam sent me this last week saying 'Dolly was always looking out for you' (I CAN'T with my 11-year-old awkward smile) ALL HAIL DOLLY."

Chelsea's character Alicia departed Casualty back in January after deciding to put her career before boyfriend Ethan Hardy.

Speaking to Digital Spy at the time, the actress revealed of her future plans: "I am still only 27 and there are still lots of things I want to kick off.

"I had such a great time at Casualty and the job was amazing, but I've been there for a few years and I just felt like it was time for me to move on and progress. I wanted to leave on a high."

She added: "There are a couple of things I've got coming up which I can't talk about yet as it's not completely confirmed. I've also done a couple of voice overs and stuff but now it’s the New Year I want to start being super productive and we'll just see."

Casualty airs on BBC One.
