Children killed in Staffordshire house fire named

The four young children who were killed when a fire ripped through their home in Staffordshire have been named as eight-year-old Riley Holt, Keegan Unitt, six, four-year-old Tilly Rose Unitt and Olly Unitt, aged three.

A fifth child, named locally as two-year-old Jack, escaped from a first-floor window along with his mother Natalie Unitt and her partner Chris.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

Body found in search for missing student

Officers searching for missing student Daniel Williams, 19, have found a body in a lake on campus at the University of Reading.

Thames Valley Police said that Mr Williams’ family had been notified, although formal identification had not yet taken place.

The death is being treated as unexplained and is not believed to be suspicious, the force added.

Chips shrink by an inch after last year’s extreme weather

Last summer’s heatwave has cut around an inch off the average chip, according to a new report from the Climate Change Coalition.

The study claims climate extremes of the past few years — including the snowfall and freezing temperatures of February and March 2018 and one of the driest June months in England and Wales since 1910 – have been devastating for UK fruit and vegetable farmers.

Potato farmers have reported yields down an average of 20% on average, meaning that potato products will be smaller and in shorter supply.

Dog owner fined £4,000 for failing to pick up excrement

A dog owner has been ordered to pay more than £4,000 for failing to pick up his pet’s poo.

Carl Davies He pleaded not guilty to three offences of failing to pick up after his dog but was convicted after a court was shown secret video footage taken by a member of the public on Weston-super-Mare, Somerset.

The Beach Lawns, on the resort’s seafront, are covered by a council public space protection order making it an offence not to pick up after your dog.
