John Bercow ‘to stand down next summer’

House of Commons speaker John Bercow has confirmed he will stand down next summer.

The announcement confirms reports in June that Mr Bercow was planning to stay in post for one more year to see through the brexit process.

It follows a bruising day for the speaker, with MPs calling for his resignation in the Commons following a damning report into the culture of bullying in Parliament.

Mr Bercow has faced claims of bullying two former employees.

Prolific paedophile has sentence cut

One of Britain’s most prolific paedophiles has had his ‘manifestly excessive’ sentence cut by seven years.

Cambridge graduate Matthew Falder was jailed for 32 years after admitting 137 offences, including voyeurism, encouraging child rape, and sharing images showing the abuse of a newborn baby.

His custodial term was reduced to 25 years by Court of Appeal judges.

Three killed after caravan towed wrong way along motorway

Three people have been killed after a car towing a caravan the wrong way along the M40 motorway crashed.

Thames Valley Police received reports of the Subaru Forester SUV being driven south on the northbound carriageway shortly before 4pm on Monday.

The driver and a passenger in the Forester, both in their 80s, and the driver of another car, died in the collision.

Pippa Middleton gives birth to baby boy

Pippa Middleton, the sister of the Duchess of Cambridge, has given birth to her first child, a baby boy weighing 8lb and 9oz.

Pippa married hedge fund manager James Matthews last year.
