Police have revealed the cause of a crash between a driver and a police vehicle on a Hampshire road.

Last night the Echo reported that a police car had been involved in a collision with an Audi.

The incident took place at the junction of St Mary's Road and Shearer Road in Portsmouth on Thursday evening.

Hampshire Constabulary has now issued an update on how the crash occurred.

A spokesperson for the force said that: "We can confirm that shortly before 7.40pm on Thursday, May 2, a police vehicle was involved in a damage only collision with an Audi A6 at the Shearer Road junction of St Marys Road in Portsmouth.

"No-one was injured in the low speed collision and the police vehicle was not responding to a call from a member of the public or an an incident at the time."
