The brand new series of Celebrity Big Brother is almost upon us, but have you ever stopped to wonder what actually happens to the housemates in the hours before they enter the house?

Where do they go? Who do they talk to? And how are they stopped from bumping into each other in the BB green room?

Well, we spoke to the Big Brother gods (aka Creative Director Paul Osborne and Executive Editor Tamsin Hodgson) to find out for you, and you might be in for some surprises...

24+ hours before launch

Celebrity housemates are collected from their homes well over the 24-hour mark.

A car is sent by producers (no tubes or trains for this lot, of course) in the morning of the day before the live launch.

So, for this series, that means the line-up has been in the capable hands of Big Brother since the morning of Wednesday 15 August.

At the point of collection, the celebrity contestants are instructed to hand in their phones. They are cut off from the outside world from this point on, and are taken to a super secret location.

24 hours to go

Housemates cannot go anywhere apart from the mystery place they have been allocated, so we presume that they are dropped off there and have a cushy hotel to spend their 'last night' in – away from distractions like social media.

While in hiding, the celebrity's suitcases are checked for banned items. This security check will be repeated on launch day too.

12 hours to go

On the day of the launch, Big Brother bosses go to an enormous amount of effort to ensure that the celebrities do not cross paths before entering the house.

A team of chaperones is on hand to monitor the soon-to-be housemate's movements. They notify each other (we like to think that walkie-talkies come into play at this point) if any of them are "on the move" at any time.

9 hours to go

During their final day before entering the house, the celebrities have a briefing with the executive producers.

This is a chance for BB bosses to reinforce the all-important rules of the house, and it also gives them all a chance for initial hellos and a quick chinwag (something contestants are probably grateful for, having been in isolation).

A few hours to go...

There are no strict rules or call times when it comes to getting glam ahead of the live launch. It is up to each contestant to start getting ready when they wish to.

We imagine that some may take a little longer than others, but each new housemate will – of course – be camera-ready before going into the launch show.

Moments to go...

As Emma Willis is kicking things off live on Channel 5, each celeb is given their own dressing room in Elstree before their big entrance.

Of course, you're sure to know by now, they have their very own entrance music and a short chat with Emma before entering the famous house. And in case you missed it, it has had a tropical makeover this year.

Celebrity Big Brother returns Thursday 16 August at 9pm on Channel 5
