CeeLo Green admitted he was disappointed not to make it all the way after he was revealed to be Monster on The Masked Singer.

The US chart star was unmasked on Saturday night, at the end of a dramatic semi-final that also saw Denise Van Outen unveiled as Fox.

Green said it had been “a really cool and invigorating experience” - although he confessed the “sheer weight” of his blue, furry costume made things a bit difficult at times.

He said: “The toughest part of the process was the physical labour I believe.

“To be able to wear the weight of the costume, also focus on performing, giving the audience animation and giving them energy and charisma, but then also finding your breathing and your breath control and being able to sing the songs effectively.

“All at the same time, so it’s a lot to think about and juggle.”

However, he admitted he would like to wear the outfit at least one more time - possibly to Nando’s.

Fans thought Green was a likely contender and judges Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, Ken Jeong and Rita Ora had been bandying his name around for weeks.

The singer said of the panel: “I thought that they were all very genuinely perplexed but interested and intrigued about who I actually was.

“I thought that they were right on the nose because I’ve heard so many times before that my voice is very distinct and very recognisable which is a quality that most singers would want and hey, it’s a one of a kind voice you know? What can I say?!

“So it’s not easily mistaken for anybody else and you can’t help but take it as a compliment regardless of winning or not.”

The star said he would have liked to have remained in the competition.

“It was a little disappointing, you know?” he confessed.

“I definitely would’ve liked to win once I got to that point.

“But nonetheless it was a wonderful experience and I’m glad I made it that far so no love lost.”

Green was the ninth celebrity to be unmasked on the show.

EastEnders actress Patsy Palmer, former Home Secretary Alan Johnson, The Darkness rocker Justin Hawkins and former England footballer Teddy Sheringham were the secret celebrities hiding inside Butterfly, Pharaoh, Chameleon and Tree.

Daisy was revealed to be US singer Kelis, Skin from Skunk Anansie turned out to be Duck and Jake Shears from Scissor Sisters was Unicorn.
