Celtic and Rangers dating apps launched for Old Firm fans looking for love

Old Firm fans can now find their perfect match after dating apps were launched for fans looking for love.

CelticMATCH and RangersMATCH have been created for supporters looking for someone who shares their interest in their respective Glasgow clubs. Celtic fans have been encouraged to "find their match in Paradise" while Ibrox supporters can enjoy a "dating experience that's Simply The Best".

The Parkhead club's version says "it is only place for Celtic fans around the globe to meet, chat and date". As it describes itself as the "best and most up to date experience for like minded fans."

The Record reports that the app also teases in person dating nights, adding: "Browse the various categories which are designed to help you find someone close to home or further afield and keep an eye out for our promotions, party nights and events. Hail! Hail!"

The Rangers version, RangersMATCH, has a similar description, stating: "RangersMATCH is the dating app for all Rangers fans around the globe to meet, chat and date. We've designed RangersMATCH to bring you the best and most up to date dating experience for all our fans.

"Browse through the categories which will enable you find someone close to home or further afield and don't forget to keep an eye out for our up and coming events in the listings. FOLLOW FOLLOW".

The free-to-download apps were launched for Apple and Android by creator David McLeod.

David told the Record: "Basically the idea for the apps came when we noticed that there was a large mix of men and women, not only at games involving Celtic and Rangers but in particular when either side filled the streets and pubs to celebrate winning a trophy.

"In the past it was mainly the guys who were out and about partying but in more recent times more and more women are joining in the respective clubs celebrations, that's when we thought a dating app for the clubs might be beneficial as more people are turning to them.

"It's taken a bit time to get going as the apps need to be designed then approved by Android and IOS but now they are live it's just a question of spreading the word. Once we start to grow we will upgrade onto a more user friendly setup.

"The aim of the apps is not only to the help fans meet and date but to eventually be of benefit to each club, initially we will donate to each clubs charity foundation but as they grow the long-term idea would be for each club to become a partner so they can benefit directly from it commercially."

Old Firm fans were sceptical about meeting supporters for love online.

One Hoops fan said: "That Celtic dating app is just going to be folk from Celtic tik tok and the same folk you see on your Twitter everyday."

Another said: "See if you’ve got to go on that Celtic dating app then you’re not DMing enough of the right people on Twitter."

A Facebook page was also created for CelticMATCH.

A post on the page on Thursday, accompanied with screenshots of the app, read: "Hail Hail Celtic dating is here!!! For Ghirls & Bhoys around the globe.

A similar RangersMATCH Facebook account was launched in July 2023.

It showed a love heart in front of a Union Jack flag, and earlier this month a profile cover photo was added, showing red, white and blue heart shapes.

The apps are not affiliated with the official teams.

Rangers declined to comment when approached by the Record, while Celtic did not respond.
