Celtic have been given every chance of landing Liverpool keeper Caoimhin Kelleher this summer - after stressing his desire to be number one wherever he plays next season.

The Ireland shotstopper has played second fiddle to Alisson at Anfield but played plenty of football last season due to the Brazilian's injury problems. His links with Celtic have never really gone away and while he'd likely be an expensive option, he'd be the sort of high-calibre and quality addition Brendan Rodgers is looking for to replace Joe Hart.

But what are the chances of him actually signing for Celtic? Pretty decent, according to the bookies. Gambling.com have it as a two-horse race between Celtic and Brighton, with the Hoops given a 36 per cent chance of landing him this summer. Kelleher made 26 appearances last season for Liverpool but Arne Slot may look to change things up between the sticks.

Speaking about his future, Kelleher previously said in an interview he wants to be number one at Anfield. But if that doesn't come, he wants to be starting somewhere to enhance his international chances. He said: The season I’ve had, I’ve played a lot of games and had that taste this season of being a number one. Whether that’s at Liverpool or elsewhere, that remains to be seen. My main focus at the moment is to be number one.

“Obviously I love playing for Ireland. A big ambition of mine is to be the number one here – that only comes hand in hand when I’m number one at the club as well. That plays a major part as well, in terms of helping my case to be Ireland number one.”

Elsewhere Joe Hart has led the tributes to departing Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga. The centre-back leaves under freedom of contract after more than ten years of service but didn't make a single appearance under Ange Postecoglou. He paid tribute to the club on Instagram and his former teammate Hart was straight in with a good luck message.

And what sort of role could Mikey Johnston have at Parkhead next season? Not much one, according to West Brom hero Don Goodman - who has urged his club to sign him up after an impressive loan spell. The winger impressed with seven goals in 20 appearances for the Baggies in the second half of last season and was a big part of their upturn in form that saw them make the playoffs but just fall short of promotion.

And Goodman, speaking to West Brom News, is desperate to see him signed permanently. He said: “I don’t see him in the Premier League just yet, but rather a Championship club that’s ambitious and wants to be at the top end of the division – a category West Brom will consider themselves in after this past season.

“The fact is that he was playing week in and week out, enjoying himself and embracing the challenge that comes with Championship football, which with respect in Scotland you’ve just got a head-to-head battle with Celtic and Rangers. So although he’d have the opportunity to play European football next season, which would be attractive to him, is Brendan Rodgers going to guarantee him game time?

"At this moment in time, I’d highly doubt that. If I was Mikey Johnston and wasn’t guaranteed game time, I’d be looking to get away.”
