Chalfont couple to bulldoze house and build new one so they can ‘work from home’

A couple have said they will bulldoze their home in Chalfont St Peter and build a new one to ‘allow them to work from home’.

Mr and Mrs Christopher Gillies’ plans to demolish their bungalow on Priory Road have been given permission by Buckinghamshire Council.

The single storey low-rise property will make way for a new one-and-a-half storey ‘post and beam’ style oak-frame house.

The proposed new two-bedroom home is described as ‘moderately sized’, being lower than some neighbouring properties and within the boundaries of the existing bungalow.

Mr and Mrs Gillies’ application says that an upstairs bedroom area of the new property will have the ‘potential’ to be converted into a future first-floor carer’s unit, should it be required ‘to cater to future needs’.

The couple recently purchased their current property and formally changed its name from ‘Lavenham’ to ‘Little Oak’.

Their plans state that their new house will be ‘more sustainable and energy-efficient’.

A design statement prepared by Oakwrights, a designer and builder of bespoke oak framed houses, mentions Mr and Mrs Gillies’ love for Chalfont St Peter.

It reads: “Our clients love the local community and have moved to the site to be near to their son, daughter-in-law and their growing family.

“The property will enable working from home and easy access to London for various work and social meetings; hence they wish to build within the same area to maintain the closeness to family, ease of travel and build friendships in area that they love.”
