Channel 5 controller Ben Frow has no regrets over cancelling Big Brother two years ago.

Running for 18 years in total, Big Brother was a pioneering title in the reality TV genre, but you could argue that its relevancy waned towards the end in an overcrowded market.

Rumours are still echoing around the industry about a reboot, but while attending the virtual Edinburgh TV Festival this month, Frow suggested he "never" experienced any bad feelings over the situation.

Via Metro, he also revealed that there's no plans to introduce a similar reality show on the channel in its place.

"Right now I couldn't afford it. The world is very crowded with reality shows," noted Frow.

"I think there are supreme reality shows out there. Don't go where you can't be the best – turn left and go in a different direction and provide an alternative."

Elsewhere during his appearance, the channel boss went on to address claims that the programmes he commissions are very 'Yorkshire-heavy and white'.

"Yorkshire is very white," he responded. "We have to make much more effort. Sometimes when I'm talking to producers they say: 'It's very white' and I say, 'Find them, you've got to make the extra effort', that is something that is always in the back of our minds, though.

"Yorkshire is part of Channel 5's DNA."
