Eagle eyed locals in South Tyneside have spotted stars including Jill Halfpenny in the area over the last few days and their reason for being there is to film new Channel 5 thriller The Feud.

Ex Byker Grove and Waterloo Road actress and Strictly winner Jill is no stranger to a Channel 5 drama, having now starred in three: The Drowning, The Holiday and, most recently, The Cuckoo, where she played villain Sian, in a very different role to what viewers are used to seeing her in.

And now Geordie star Jill is back in front of camera for Channel 5 once again, this time to shoot The Feud, as the cast and crew descended in Jarrow to shoot at the Town Hall. And Jill wasn't the only famous clocked by residents, as Derry Girls favourite Jamie O'Donnell, who also appeared in Channel 4's Screw, was also seen.

An early teaser for The Feud reveals that the six-part series will focus will on a couple who appear to live an idyllic life with their teenage daughter on Shelbury Drive, next to neighbours they consider friends. However, when they decide to add a kitchen extension to their house, relationships spin out of control as objections are raised and life-threatening secrets begin to surface.

The Feud will continue to shoot around the region over the coming weeks and is set to air on Channel 5 next year. Talking about her role, Jill said: “The spiral that we see Emma’s world take in The Feud, from one seemingly innocent situation to life altering revelations, is something I can’t wait to dive into.

"Getting to work in the Northeast with the teams at Channel 5 and Lonesome Pine, along with the rest of this brilliant cast, is a joy.”
