A BELOVED Warrington charity has slammed the selfish actions of people who leave their animals suffering.

Warrington Animal Welfare has pleaded with pet owners to ensure they get the care they deserve following two shocking incidents this past week.

One involved Leo the cat, who was brought to the Slutchers Lane shelter with an eye injury untreated for a month, which he has now lost after it burst.

Another saw a cat struggling to care for her kittens after being injured, in what staff believe was a road traffic collision.

On its social media page, Warrington Animal Welfare said: “We understand that veterinary care can be expensive, but this does not mean you can leave an animal to suffer.

“Over the weekend, we had two shocking cases, both now under the care of WAW.

“Leo arrived at the centre on Friday night with his owner. Poor Leo had an appalling untreated eye injury which had been left for a month as his owner could not afford treatment.

“Sadly, the eye had burst, and Leo has now lost his eye. The picture was sickening so we blurred it out.

“Daisy had stopped feeding her three tiny kittens, who are approximately half a week old, and our vet discovered that she had an untreated broken pelvis and facial injuries.

“This was most likely from an RTC, yet somehow she had managed to get herself back to her babies.

“Both Leo and Daisy are recovering well. Leo is much brighter, has eaten and taken all his medication, while Daisy’s kittens are being hand-reared by an amazing volunteer.

“Daisy herself is enjoying some TLC and rest. She is only able to eat soups now, but is doing better with pain relief and rest.

“We ask that anyone considering getting a pet to factor in the cost of veterinary care, as leaving an animal to suffer in any circumstance is not acceptable.”
