Charlie's Angels actress Drew Barrymore has shed more light on the clash between Lucy Liu and Bill Murray during production.

Earlier this year, Liu (who portrayed Alex Munday) recalled how Murray (John Bosley) directed "inexcusable" insults at her while on set, after he found out about last-minute script changes.

"I was, like, 'Wow, he seems like he's looking straight at me.' I couldn't believe that [his comments] could be towards me, because what do I have to do with anything majorly important at that time?" she said, before explaining how she stood up for herself in the moment.

This topic was once again raised during a recent episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, which allowed the titular host to share her perspective.

"So what really happened was Bill was just in a – you know comedians can be a little dark sometimes – and he just came in in a bad mood and what you have to know is how much Lucy stood up for herself, and that was the great thing that came out of an unfortunate circumstance," she told guest Danny Pellegrino.

"She literally said, 'I do not accept that kind of behaviour from you'. And we all supported her and backed her up, and we moved forward."

Barrymore went on to say that Murray initially targeted everyone on set, but soon "zeroed in on" Liu.

She added: "In the workplace it is so important that we respect each other, and if you don't feel you are being respected, to speak up for yourself and to have people around you say, 'I back this person'.

"I respected her then; I respect her now. I am proud of us as a team and a company that we didn't tiptoe on the eggshells. We dealt with it right then and there, we were strong, and we moved forward, and we didn't accept anything less moving forward."

Digital Spy has reached out to Murray's representatives for any comment.

In 2009, Murray spoke about rumours surrounding some of his on-set behaviour in an interview with The Times.

While it isn't clear if he was referring to Charlie's Angels, he said of his working practices: "Look, I will dismiss you completely if you are unprofessional and working with me. When our relationship is professional, and you're not getting that done, forget it."
