Cheadle thirds brought an end to Stafford seconds’ unblemished record with a stunning batting display in their NSSCL Division Five clash.

Stafford went into the contest on the back of nine successive victories to take their place at the top of the table.

However, their bid to extend that sequence was ended as Cheadle executed a superb run chase.

Cheadle were set a mammoth 308 to win from 40 overs - and managed to pocket a five-wicket triumph with 11 balls to spare.

Joseph Wallani hit five fours and five sixes in his 71 and Ben Mellor blazed eight boundaries and four maximums in his 60 to give the Moorlanders a handy start.

But at 180-5, Cheadle still required another big partnership if they were to lower the leaders’ colours for the first time.

And it came in the form of David Wilson and Chris Prince’s alliance as they both compiled half-centuries to steer the home side over the line.

Wilson’s unbeaten 69 featured 13 fours, while Prince struck five fours and three sixes in his 57 not out to complete the chase.

Rishi Harish and Kannan Bhuvanachandran both claimed two wickets for Stafford.

Earlier in the day, Stafford has piled up 307-8 from their allocation, in which Harry Bonehill took 4-39.

Mark Evans top-scored with 81, with Kshitiz Mahajan smashed six fours and half-a-dozen maximums in a 19-ball 62.

The runs kept flowing with Will Ashton (47), Paul Darmody (32) and Ali Siddiqi (30) all in fine fettle - but it was Cheadle who had the final say with their own batting masterclass.

Corey Jones was on the ton trail in Stone SP thirds’ home win against Caverswall seconds.

Jones made 151 not out, including 17 fours and two sixes, to power Stone SP to 248-5.

William Farrow chipped in with 47 as he shared a 162-run opening stand with Jones.

David Tooth was the pick of the Caverswall attack, scooping 3-40.

Caverswall could only muster 49 in reply - Evan Hill top-scoring with 15 - as Sam Bamford claimed 4-18 and Austin Bourne struck twice.

Leycett seconds won on their trip to Audlem.

Audlem took first use, but were in early trouble as they fell to 20-4.

They did recover, however, as Tom Measures’ 72, which contained 10 fours, Dave Parkinson’s 24 and 17 from Simon Swift, helped them to 143 all out.

James Lawton helped himself to 3-26 for Leycett and there were a couple of wickets apiece for Liam Bedson and Finley Waterhouse.

Ron Paul captured 3-52 on the resumption, but Leycett managed to find their way to a five-wicket success.

That was thanks to Darren Snape’s unbeaten 55, 29 from Bedson and David Speakman’s 26.

Whitmore seconds prevailed on their visit to Meir Heath 2nd XI.

Mike Green (29) and Harry Tweats (28) made the biggest impacts as Whitmore made their way to 112 all out in the formative stages.

Jan Osgathorpe (4-30) and Daniel Hussain (3-13) did the bulk of the damage, with Stefan Read striking twice.

Fahzad Aziz and Imran Khan both made 20 in Meir Heath’s run chase, but it wasn’t enough.

They were bundled out for 93 as Green snared 4-21 and Owen Lawton picked up 3-25.

Moddershall & Oulton fifths made home advantage count to beat Stafford thirds.

Annamalai Veerappan and Saleem Mir both contributed 52 to the Modd men’s 212-4 from their 40 overs.

Zahir Ahmad (41) and Muhammad Arshad (38) were also in good nick with the bat.

Sikandar Alam Khan (45no), Muhammad Saleem (32) and Dave Cartlidge (22) made starts for Stafford after tea.

But Rizwan Ali’s 5-34, allied to Mir’s two wickets, saw the visitors limited to 179-9 at the close.

Porthill Park fourths pocketed the points from their visit to Sandyford seconds.

Auyush Deshpande’s 44 was backed up by Matt Bailey’s unbeaten 33, 30 from Declan Coxon and 28 from Alex Lockett as Porthill Park amassed 176-6. Tim Brennan took two of the wickets to fall.

Philip Robins (38) starred in reply, with Steven Lowe (29no), Patrick Wilkes (26) and Asachveer Singh-Kaller (20) also contributing.

However, Sandyford were kept at arm’s length as they drew stumps on 157-8 as Owais Iqbal and Nathan Price took a couple of victims apiece.
