A day at Chelsea's Stamford Bridge is rarely without its share of speculation about high-profile transfers, financial woes, or managerial shake-ups.

It remains to be seen whether Todd Boehly's tenure will continue to be marked by extravagant spending or restrained by financial fair play this summer, but regardless, the perception that the Blues have underperformed on the pitch this season persists. However, a potential solution to their inconsistent form could be right under their noses, and for once, it won't cost them a fortune.

The impressive 4-0 victory by Chelsea's Under 21s against Aston Villa on Monday night showcased the exceptional talent of 17-year-old Kiano Dyer. While manager Mark Robinson rightly praised the team's performance, it was footage of the young midfielder dominating the game that caught the attention on social media.

Dyer has never been intimidated by playing above his age group. He joined from West Brom in 2021 when he was just 14, but within a year, he made his debut at the U18 level for the club.

His first appearance resulted in a goal in a victory over Birmingham City, although his talent isn't defined by his scoring prowess. Dyer has a raw talent that is rare for players of his age - he has the ability to control games from deep positions.

Whether it's winning the ball back or causing damage with it, his style of play is reminiscent of Jude Bellingham. His performances have not gone unnoticed at international level.

Having already represented England in the U16, 17, and 18 categories, it wouldn't be surprising if he eventually earns a senior call-up. The odds of this happening may not be too long.

This season, Dyer has been training with Chelsea's first team, although he hasn't made his Premier League debut yet. It remains to be seen whether Mauricio Pochettino will take the risk of playing such an inexperienced player in this campaign.

Regardless, Dyer's time is on the horizon. A nearby example of how taking a chance on young players can pay off is Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo. Just a year older than Dyer, Mainoo spent last Sunday afternoon battling Liverpool at Old Trafford, scoring a fantastic long-range goal in the process.

Like Pochettino, United manager Erik ten Hag has faced pressure this season. However, his commendable decision to give Mainoo a chance has had significant benefits for both club and country.

The player has already earned two caps for England and is widely expected to be part of the squad for Euro 2024 this summer. Like Mainoo, Dyer's potential extends beyond mere social media buzz.

Stamford Bridge has resembled a faulty revolving door under Boehly’s tenure, but one key to re-establishment as a force at the top end of English and European football may lie in ensuring that, metaphorically at least, their latest precocious talent remains firmly in the building.
