Former Tottenham managerial target Arne Slot is being tipped for the Liverpool manager role following unexpected talks between Ruben Amorim, who is now deemed "unlikely" to take over from Jurgen Klopp, and West Ham. The Hammers are reportedly considering a move for the Sporting CP coach, who has been deemed a top candidate for several jobs across Europe this summer.

Amorim had recently been the frontrunner to replace Klopp at Anfield the German announced in January his departure from the club at the end of the season, following nine years filled with trophies. However, The Athletic reports that West Ham have "held talks over an ambitious move to appoint Amorim," who has significantly turned around Sporting's fortunes since taking over in 2020.

The 39-year-old is on track for a second league title success in four seasons with the Lisbon club. He has also been on the radar for Chelsea in the past and is thought to be a top option should they split with Mauricio Pochettino at the end of this season.

It's suggested that the Hammers are preparing for the possibility of changing manager though, with David Moyes possibly set to leave the club at the end of the season having yet to sign an extension despite his current contract at the London Stadium expiring in June. The report also suggests that Amorim is "unlikely" to be Liverpool's "preferred candidate" to replace Klopp.

Amorim, a former Benfica midfielder who retired in 2017, has kept quiet about his future in recent weeks and most recently avoided all questions about a potential exit from the Jose Alvalade Stadium, reports the Liverpool Echo. His contract runs until 2026 and it's reported that he has a release clause of €20million (£17m) should any team wish to lure him away from Sporting.

He has previously stated that he would not look to leave the Portuguese side unless he stopped winning trophies. He has been dubbed as the 'next Jose Mourinho' in the past, though he is understandably keen to stay clear of those comparisons.

Meanwhile, Feyenoord boss Arne Slot has seen his odds slashed to 3/1 on Monday afternoon to be the next manager at Anfield, succeeding Klopp. Spurs pushed hard to make the Dutchman their permanent replacement for Antonio Conte before seeing him sign a new contract with the Eredivisie side.
