Cher confuses fans as huge diamond ring hints at Christmas engagement to boyfriend

Cher has fans confused fans after a photograph led them to believe she's engaged to boyfriend Alexander Edwards.

The Strong Enough singer, 76, confirmed her relationship with the 36-year-old music executive in November by sharing a photograph of him online.

On Christmas Day (December 25), Cher posted a photo of a teardrop-shaped diamond with an encrusted band in a black velvet box, prompting speculation they were taking their relationship down the aisle.

Alongside the photograph, she wrote: "THERE R NO WORDS, ALEXANDER, A.E."

Many fans were quick to send their congratulations to the happy couple, however just hours before she had debunked the idea she and Edwards were planning on getting married.

Responding to a fan who had heard rumours about a potential marriage, Cher responded: "No… I’VE BEEN MARRIED THATS WHY I CHANGED MY NAME TO CHER . NOT EASY. SEEMS COURT FROWNS. You must prove Ppl can recognize You with that name. Bingo."

She later reposted the photo again with the comment: "I posted this cause his nails are so cool", remarking on his black and neon green nail varnish that looked like flames.

Yahoo has contacted Cher's representatives for comment or clarification.

If true, then Edwards would be Cher's third husband.

She was previously married to Sonny Bono from 1964 to 1975, and then to Gregg Allman from 1975 to 1978.

The singer has two children, one from each marriage.

Edwards was previously in a three-year relationship with Amber Rose, with whom he has a three-year-old son, Slash Electric Alexander Edwards. They split in August 2021.

Cher has previously been forced to defend her relationship with Edwards, given the 40-year age gap, but insists it works for them and makes her happy.

Speaking on The Kelly Clarkson Show in December, the singer said: "On paper, it's kind of ridiculous, but in real life, we get along great. He's fabulous. And I don't give men qualities that they don't deserve."

The news comes as a happy moment for the star, who announced the death of her beloved mother, Georgia Holt, on December 10th.
