Cherokee Civic Theater presents "Anne of Green Gables"

Feb. 26—The Cherokee Civic Theatre, in its third main stage performance of the season, will present "Anne of Green Gables."

Marty Chute's directorial debut is this beloved childhood classic by L. M. Montgomery, adapted for the stage by Jody Johnston Davidson and produced by special arrangement with Pioneer Drama Services, Inc., Englewood, Colorado.

Chute started her association with CCT in the 2014 production of Murder's in the Aire. Ironically, she played the part of a director in that show. She has since participated in many other plays, acted as stage manager and was assistant director for Steel Magnolias.

"Directing this show has been amazing. It is a director's dream when the actors and actresses reach that magical moment when their character transformation is complete and the character's personality comes alive," she said. "The cast and crew of this show have been remarkable to work with and it has truly been a treat."

Chutes said she chose to direct this particular play because it is a timeless story, adding that since it is a period piece it provides an added depth to portray on stage.

"Anne of Green Gables" tells of the adventures of an 11-year-old orphan girl, Anne, who is sent by mistake to two middle-aged siblings who originally intended to adopt a boy to help on their farm. It is a heart-warming tale of how Anne navigates school, friendship and life.

Performances are slated for 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 1 and 2, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 3 at the historic theater located at 157 W. 5th Street in Rusk.
