Cherries legend Pitman finds new non-league club to prolong career

CHERRIES legend Brett Pitman will prolong his career into another season, after finding a new club in non-league.

Pitman, 36, came through Cherries’ academy and played a key role in their rise up from League Two to the Premier League, netting 102 goals for the club across two spells.

In recent years, the striker, who Eddie Howe has often described as the best finisher he has worked with, has been plying his trade in non-league, namely the Wessex Premier Division.

He has bagged a staggering 109 goals across two seasons in the ninth tier, with AFC Portchester and then Shaftesbury.

Pitman helped the Rockies to promotion, but opted against staying with them, due to extra travel commitments required in the Southern League.

Instead he will remain in the Wessex Premier, now joining Baffins Milton Rovers.

Discussing the arrival of the prolific former Portsmouth, Bristol City and Ipswich Town frontman, Baffins boss Danny Thompson said: “The opportunity to sign a player of Brett’s quality and experience shows the intent and aspirations we have at Baffins this season.

“Brett’s goalscoring record will be a massive help to our squad - at whatever level he’s played at, he’s scored plenty of goals - and we’re hoping he will continue this with us next season.”

Portsmouth-based Baffins finished fifth last season, beaten in the play-offs.
