Cherries loanee Moore helps Ipswich to cusp of Premier League promotion

CHERRIES loanee Kieffer Moore helped temporary club Ipswich Town onto the verge of promotion to the Premier League on Tuesday night.

Welsh international Moore opened the scoring in Ipswich’s eventual 2-1 win away at Coventry, lifting the Tractor Boys into second and three points clear of Leeds United heading into the final game of the season.

As such, all Ipswich need from their final-day showdown with already relegated Huddersfield is a point at Portman Road.

Ipswich last featured in England’s top tier back in 2002 and have only recently made their return back to the second tier after three years in League One.

It is not the first time Moore has made a goal-scoring impact on a promotion-chasing side after arriving in January, the striker grabbing Cherries’ winner against Nottingham Forest in May 2022 to secure AFC Bournemouth’s return to the Premier League.

Since joining the Tractor Boys on loan, the 31-year-old has seven goals in 17 appearances.

Multiple loans have given this year’s Championship promotion race a distinct Cherries flavour.

Aside from Moore’s spell in Suffolk, Leeds have borrowed Jaidon Anthony, whilst play-off bound Southampton currently have David Brooks and Joe Rothwell on loan from Bournemouth.

Anthony will reacquaint himself with his Cherries clubmates on the final day of the season, as Leeds welcome Southampton to Elland Road.

With Leeds currently third and Southampton just behind them in fourth, the two clubs are bookies’ favourites to meet in the play-off final at Wembley on Sunday, May 26.

Moore, Anthony, Brooks, and Rothwell all have time remaining on their deals with Cherries, with the quartet set to return to Vitality Stadium at the conclusion of their loans.

Next season’s collection of Premier League clubs is already taking shape, with Cherries one of 17 clubs to have booked their place in next year’s top flight.

Leicester City have already been crowned Championship winners, whilst 16 sides in the top tier have confirmed mathematical safety from relegation.

In contrast, Sheffield United have already been relegated from the Premier League with three games remaining.
